Parking Enforcement in the Plaza District — What You Need to Know

June 30, 2025

As of June 2025, parking enforcement has resumed in the Plaza District. KCPD Parking Control now has two dedicated crews patrolling to help manage time-limited zones and improve turnover in high-demand spots citywide. This renewed focus on enforcement ensures greater accessibility and supports local businesses by keeping parking spaces available for short-term visitors.

Why This Matters for the Plaza

Time-limited parking isn’t just a rule—it’s a tool to support our district. Enforcing parking limits helps keep spaces available for people making quick trips to shop, dine, or attend appointments. This turnover is critical for our local retailers and restaurants, as it increases foot traffic and makes it easier for visitors to find a spot close to their destination. Without enforcement, long-term parkers can clog prime spots, making it harder for customers and short-term visitors to access the Plaza.

Staying Longer Than 2 Hours?

If you’re planning a longer visit—maybe lunch and a shopping stroll or an afternoon at a Plaza event—you’re encouraged to use one of the many nearby parking garages, which offer ample space. These garages provide the flexibility to enjoy your time in the Plaza without worrying about time limits or fines.

What to Expect

Parking enforcement will be monitoring posted zones throughout the district. Please pay attention to signage and adhere to posted time restrictions. For questions about enforcement or to contest a citation, you can visit the City of Kansas City Parking Services page.KCPD Parking Control requests individuals continue to abide by all parking ordinances/regulations as parking control officers continue to increase enforcement throughout the City as staffing allows through independent patrol, towing abandoned and illegally parked autos, responding to 311 complaints, and saturation patrols.
