New Pedestrian Bridge Breaks Ground at MLK Park

Kansas City leaders officially broke ground this week on a new pedestrian bridge that will provide safer access to Martin Luther King Jr. Park and strengthen connections between neighborhoods on both sides of Brush Creek.

City leaders, including U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver and Mayor Quinton Lucas, joined community members to celebrate the start of construction. Funding for the project was secured through $2.8 million in Community Project Funding obtained by Congressman Cleaver.

The project, located near 4651 Woodland Avenue, will create a dedicated pedestrian connection across Brush Creek, helping to improve pedestrian safety while enhancing access to the park's amenities. By creating a direct crossing over Brush Creek, the project will better connect neighborhoods on both the north and south banks and make it easier for families, children, and park visitors to reach the playground and other recreational facilities.

The bridge also represents continued investment in the Brush Creek corridor and the public spaces that bring Kansas City communities together.

We look forward to following the project's progress and celebrating its completion in the future.
