June 12-14 | Summer Camp Kemper: (Im)Perfect Patterns

Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art

June 12-14  | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Led by a museum educator, this three-day art camp features fun and creative activities inspired by the themes in the exhibition, Thread: Making Patterns as well as other artworks on view at Kemper Museum. Campers meet at Kemper Museum each day from 10 a.m.–12 p.m., Wednesday through Friday.

All art materials will be provided at no cost.

Ages 6–12.

June 12 & 20 | Art of the Imagination Summer Drop-Ins

National Museum of Toys and Miniatures

June 12 & 20 | 1:00 – 4:00 PM

Visit the Museum to make a MAKERSPACE project. Create objects inspired by the Museum’s collection of historically significant toys and fine-scale miniatures. Experiences throughout June will include opportunities to make the following:

Shoebox dollhouses
Upcycled cars and superheroes
Puppets and puppet theaters
Miniature food
And more!
June 12 and 20, 1-4 pm. Free with museum admission.

Free | Anyone who shows their Johnson County Public Library Card on these two dates receives FREE entry to the Museum and the Makerspace.

June 13 | Summer Madness: Silent Concert + Live Mural Demo with JT Daniels

Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art

June 13  | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Breeze into Summer Madness with DJ Joe “The Mad Scientist” and Silent KC! Experience a uniquely layered, silent concert celebrating the summertime heat with a vibrant fusion of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop paired with KC muralist, JT Daniels’ live painting demo.

June 15 | Kansas City International Dragon Boat Festival

The Society for Friendship with China, Inc. and KC Parks and Rec

Brush Creek (by Mill Creek Pkwy)
June 13  | 10:00AM – 2:30 PM

Brush Creek on the Country Club Plaza will be packed with people and dragons for the annual Kansas City Dragon Boat Festival. The boats enter the water for practice at 8 a.m. and festivities begin at 9:45 am. as drum rollers and dragons march along the banks of Brush Creek to kick-off a day of racing.

The festival is hosted by Kansas City-Xi’an Sister City Committee and the Society for Friendship with China in partnership with Kansas City Parks and Recreation.

June 20 | Juneteenth Celebration 

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

June 20  | 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM

As part of city-wide observances and in partnership with JuneteenthKC, the free Juneteenth Celebration honors the enduring contributions of African Americans with a full day of festivities, including live music and dancing, storytelling performances, film screenings, and educational experiences in the museum’s galleries.

June 20 | Interactive Movie: ‘Despicable Me’ 

Kansas City Public Library – Plaza Branch

June 20  | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Experience Despicable Me in a whole new way with interactive instructions and props. Enjoy snacks and perhaps win tickets to the newest Despicable Me at the end.

Loose Park Shelter

Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.
