New Pedestrian Bridge to improve access to MLK Playground

May 20, 2024

Congressman Cleaver II secured $2.8M in federal funds to build/construct a pedestrian bridge that will connect the neighborhoods to the north of Brush Creek, to arrive at MLK Playground just west of Prospect. (71 highway).  As Chris Goode notes “In 2020, while serving on the Parks board, I got to help ideate on the play site design for MLK Park.  I saw a need to ensure we were building a park that the whole community would have safe access to. That birthed the idea that we should erect a bridge and crosswalk so the kids/families looking at the park daily from their windows would be able to enjoy it!”    The bridge is expected to be completed by 2026.
