MLK Parkway Closed at Brookside through Mid-July for KC Streetcar Construction

Jun 22, 2024

You may have noticed the closure of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for construction work related to the KC Streetcar extension. The closure started on June 12. A portion of the boulevard just east of Brookside Boulevard will remain closed for approximately five weeks, weather permitting.

Detours and Traffic Management

During this period, traffic control and detour signs will be in place to guide drivers around the construction zone. Recommended detour routes include 51st Street, Oak Street, and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

Community Impact

We understand that this closure may cause some inconvenience, but it is a crucial step toward improving our city’s transportation infrastructure. The streetcar extension will significantly enhance connectivity and accessibility within Kansas City, benefiting residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Your Patience is Appreciated

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this construction period. The Plaza District Council is committed to keeping our community informed about ongoing and upcoming projects that impact our area. Please plan your routes accordingly and allow extra travel time to navigate the detours.
